Saia Reports Higher 2Q Profit

Saia Inc. said Wednesday its second-quarter net income rose from a year ago on higher revenue, improved pricing and increased tonnage.

Net income was $3.4 million, or 21 cents a share, compared with $2 million, or 12 cents, a year ago. Revenue rose 15% to $266 million.

Operating income jumped 41% to $8.3 million, the less-than-truckload carrier said. LTL tonnage per day was up 4.5% from a year ago, while shipments per workday were up 3%.

Saia is ranked No. 23 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
