S.C. Port Truckers Must Register in Clean Truck Program by Dec. 31

Truckers doing business in South Carolina's ports have until Dec. 31 to register for the South Carolina Ports Authority’s Clean Truck Certification Program.

Trucks serving container terminals are required under the program to be fitted with engines manufactured in 1994 or later, according to SCPA. Truck owners must register via the program’s website at cleantruck.scspa.com. 

SCPA made available a limited number of hardship registrations on a first-come, first-served basis for trucks that have called on terminals at least 52 times in the previous year, according to the ports authority. Those registrations will expire June 30.

Trucks that aren’t certified and don’t have a hardship registration will be allowed a one-time entrance to port terminals. SCPA plans to conduct on-site spot checks to confirm engine compliance.

In November, SCPA offered incentives of $5,000 plus scrap value to truck owners who upgraded their engines.

SCPA oversees the ports of Charleston, Georgetown and an inland port in Greer.
