Scania Expands Dealerships in Iraq

Swedish truck maker Scania AB opened its second dealership in Iraq and seeks to start another one this year as the country’s reconstruction spurs demand, Bloomberg reported.

Iraq’s government has ordered 500 Scania trucks, which are being assembled locally by the Iraqi state automotive company, Bloomberg said, citing a company official.

Scania has also delivered about 30 trucks to private buyers since re-entering the country last year. Iraq was once one of its biggest markets, with deliveries peaking at 3,900 trucks in 1981.

The U.S. Army took over the truck maker’s Baghdad service center after the 2003 invasion, renaming it Camp Scania, Bloomberg reported.
