A Senate subcommittee has scheduled a hearing to examine the management and safety of the country’s intricate pipeline system.
The hearing of the Surface Transportation and Merchant Marine Infrastructure, Safety, and Security Subcommittee, scheduled for Sept. 29, comes ahead of the panel’s consideration of a pipeline safety measure.
“America’s pipelines move critical energy resources to homes and businesses across Nebraska and throughout the country. While our pipelines have been lauded as the safest way to transport energy, Congress must continue robust oversight over this important network. I am pleased to continue this discussion, and I look forward to hearing from industry stakeholders about best practices and the challenges we face,” said Sen. Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), chairman of the subcommittee, which also oversees trucking regulations.
At the hearing, senators will hear from Susan Fleming, director of physical infrastructure at the Government Accountability Office; Christopher Hart, chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board; Michael Bellamy, general manager at PII Pipeline Solutions; Donald Santa, president and CEO of Interstate Natural Gas Association of America; and Terry McCallister, chairman and CEO of WGL Holdings, who will be representing the American Gas Association.
