Solis Confirmed as Labor Secretary

The Senate confirmed congresswoman Hilda Solis (D-Calif.) as the Secretary of Labor under President Obama Tuesday, the Associated Press reported.

By a 80-17 vote, senators confirmed Solis's nomination despite concerns among Republican lawmakers about her husband's ties to a pro-union group, AP said.

In her time in the House, Solis has been a strong supporter of organized labor and an advocate for the Employee Free Choice Act, legislation that would make it easier for unions to organize employees.
