Swift Transportation’s second-quarter profit rose on improved trucking pricing and expanded intermodal operations.

Net income rose to $33.7 million, or 24 cents per share, from $19.6 million, or 14 cents, a year ago.

Revenue rose $872.6 million, from $850.5 million, the truckload carrier said late Thursday.

Trucking revenue excluding fuel surcharges was flat, despite a 3.7% reduction in fleet size, while intermodal revenue jumped 50.7%.

Swift is ranked No. 7 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
