The Teamsters have announced a tentative agreement that covers unionized car-haul carriers.

The statement on the union’s website gave no details of the deal reached with the National Automobile Transporters Labor Division. That group negotiates on behalf of carriers such as Jack Cooper Transport and Cassens Transport, which are ranked No. 42 and 72, respectively, on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.

The union, in a web posting, said, “The National Union Bargaining Committee has fully endorsed this new tentative settlement and believes it meets the goals of the car-haul membership and provides for their long-term job security.”

Union members have been working without a contract since the prior agreement expired Aug. 31. Since then, a previous tentative agreement was rejected by a wide margin.

No date has been announced for a ratification vote on the latest agreement.
