AUSTIN, Texas — Teletrac Inc. will supply electronic monitoring devices in Mexican trucks participating in the
cross-border trucking pilot program set to begin soon, a federal official announced.
William Quade, associate administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, announced the deal at the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s annual meeting, and said, “We are putting electronic monitoring devices on each of the Mexican trucks that is operating under this program.”
A major reason Teletrac was chosen was its largely bilingual installation and service team, said Stephen Clark, business development manager.
The devices will allow FMCSA to monitor Mexican drivers’ hours of service, the trucks’ locations and whether they are carrying freight from one U.S. location to another, Quade said.
The agency will pay $683,000 to Teletrac for the 12-month contract.
