Towne Air Freight Buys Texas Land and Air

Towne Air Freight said it has acquired Texas Land and Air to establish a presence in that state and widen its service offerings.

Towne said Monday that nine new cities are being added through the acquisition of the Texas company, which does about $15 million annually in sales and has 100 employees,

Terms were not disclosed. The acquisition is the third in the past three years for Towne, whose revenue last year was about $210 million, up 39% over 2007.

Since January 2007, Towne has acquired and integrated Synergy Cargo Logistics and Complete Transport, which operate primarily in the Southwest and Midwest, respectively.



“We are excited to extend Towne services to the Texas market and welcome the TXLA associates and customers to the Towne Team,” Tom Downey, Towne’s chief executive officer, said in a statement.

Towne was the fifth largest air freight company listed in the 2009 Transport Topics Top 100 Carriers.
