Transplace Inc. has announced it has been chosen to manage the truckload contracts as well as freight audit and payments of composites and coatings manufacturer Reichhold Inc.

No terms were disclosed, but Transplace, Dallas, said the contract marks another expansion of the third party’s chemical business.

Reichhold, Durham, N.C., said it expects the move to save money and improve its transportation services. The company is one of the world’s largest suppliers of unsaturated polyester resins for composites and supplies coating resins.

“After looking for a North American 3PL partner for full truckload shipments, we selected Transplace as a good fit to help Reichhold streamline and simplify our supply chain operations,” Don Brandt, Reichhold’s manager of purchasing, logistics and quality, said in a statement.

Transplace announced the Reichhold agreement nine weeks after it closed its merger with intermodal marketing company Celtic International Inc., Chicago, to create a $1 billion North American logistics provider. Celtic now operates as a division of Transplace, which remains majority-owned by investment firm CI Capital Partners LLC, New York.

Transplace made its foray into the chemical logistics arena in April, when it paid an undisclosed sum for SCO Logistics, Philadelphia, a third party that focused on chemical shipments.

The move paid off six months later, when Transplace announced that chemicals maker Elementis Specialties Inc., Hightstown, N.J., had awarded it a contract to handle truck transportation and freight bill reconciliation.

Before the SCO purchase, Transplace handled consumer packaged goods, retail and manufactured products.
