Transportation Executive Acquires Polonez Parcel Service, Plans Expansion

Veteran transportation executive Tom Nightingale has purchased Polonez Parcel Service and Universal Trucking Service, according to a statement Nightingale issued May 10.

Terms were not disclosed.

Both companies are based in West Springfield, Mass., and specialize in shipping goods for individuals and businesses in the United States to Poland and 30 other countries in Eastern Europe, Russia and the Middle East.

“The company is a market leader in our niche and well-positioned to expand in our core European market as well as other markets around the world,” Nightingale said.

Polonez has been in business for 35 years and will become part of a new corporate entity called International Package Shipping, Nightingale said.

“Our mission is to become the dominant player in deferred worldwide package shipping,” Nightingale said in describing the creation of the new enterprise on his LinkedIn profile page.

“Our core business is consumer-to-consumer consolidated package shipping by air and ocean from the U.S. to the European Union at very competitive pricing,” Nightingale stated. “In addition, we provide a wide range of services from shipping container rentals, shipment of vehicles, e-commerce, gifts and resettlements.”

The companies work with a network of agents in the United States and Europe to handle parcel pickup and delivery.

Nightingale is a former president of Genco Transportation Logistics and head of marketing and sales for ModusLink Global Solutions. He also has worked for Con-way Inc., Schneider, UPS Inc. and CSX Corp.

Nightingale said that private equity investor Ernest Jacquet and Merion Investment Partners are providing financing for the venture.
