Truckers Not Finding Relief in Slowly Recovering Economy

The U.S. economic recovery appears to be giving just a moderate boost to some trucking operations, but it is not yet clear that overall trucking demand is growing again, industry executives and analysts told Transport Topics.

At Schneider National, the nation’s largest truckload carrier, Vice President for Customer Service Dave Geyer said the carrier has noticed some gains but that freight trends remain mixed. “The economy still isn’t strong,” he said.

“Back in December, we made our plans based on a worst-case scenario and, fortunately, we’ve managed to exceed that,” said Geyer. He said the company’s current outlook is “guardedly optimistic" about the rest of the year.
