Trucking Suppliers Collaborate for 9/11 Memorial Rescue Truck

Several trucking component manufacturers have collaborated in the restoration of two heavy rescue trucks that responded to the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, according to the nonprofit Remembrance Rescue Project.

Continental AG, Alcoa Wheels, Snider Fleet Solutions and engine manufacturer Detroit Diesel Corp. are sponsoring the trucks that serve as mobile memorials to the firefighters that lost their lives during the attacks, according to the nonprofit.

During the attacks, all nine firefighters with the New York City Fire Department Rescue 4 unit and 11 firefighters with the Rescue 5 unit lost their lives at the World Trade Center complex.

Continental provided replacement truck tires, Alcoa donated new wheels for the trucks while Snider installed and balanced the wheels, and Detroit donated funds for engine maintenance.

The trucks tour the country and have appeared at schools, sporting events and auto shows to promote fire education and support firefighter causes.
