Trucking’s Happy Camper

Susan Hawk may have had her 15 minutes of fame, but she was not lured by the bright lights.

Instead of making plans to follow those lights to Hollywood, the 38-year old Palmyra, Wis., truck driver who spent 39 days “surviving” on an island in the South China Sea, is back home preparing for the work that she loves best — tooling around in a cement mixer. And she’ll be doing it for a new employer.

The work may not be glamorous, but then she won’t have to forage for food, either.

Life has finally calmed down for Hawk. She first spent several weeks earlier this year starring in CBS’s summer hit, Survivor. That was followed by a whirlwind publicity tour that included appearances on NBC’s Today show and the Rosie O’Donnell Show, among others.
