The United Auto Workers union ratified its contract agreement with Navistar International Corp., ending a seven-week strike, Bloomberg reported.

The new contract runs through Oct. 1, 2010. The agreement calls for a moratorium on “outsourcing, plant closures, spinoffs or sales” during its term, the UAW said.

About 71% of the union voted for the contract, Navistar spokesman Roy Wiley told Bloomberg. The UAW represents about 3,700 workers at nine of Navistar’s U.S. facilities.

Navistar had been seeking concessions in talks that stretched more than two years. The strike began Oct. 23, prompting the company to shift production to nonunion plants during the dispute, Bloomberg reported.

Navistar said the strike did not affect output. Navistar is the parent company of International Truck and Engine Corp.
