Union Pacific Corp. said Thursday its fourth-quarter profit jumped 24% on higher rates and volumes.
Net income rose to $964 million, or $1.99 per share, from $775 million, or $1.56, in the same quarter a year earlier.
Revenue rose 16% to $5.1 billion, including a 13% increase in intermodal, the freight railroad said.
Full-year net income rose to $3.3 billion, or $6.72 per share, from $2.8 billion, or $5.53, in 2010. Revenue rose to $19.6 billion, from $17 billion.
Union Pacific operates west of the Mississippi River.
