Universal Truckload’s 4Q Profit Improves

Universal Truckload Services reported higher fourth-quarter and full-year profits on higher truckload revenue.

Net income climbed to $3.5 million, or 23 cents a share, from $3.2 million, or 20 cents, a year ago.

Revenue for the quarter rose 11.8% to $174.6 million, the company said late Thursday.

Truckload revenue climbed 13.4% to $104 million, while brokerage revenue rose 11.1% to $46.3 million and intermodal revenue increased 6.8% to $24.2 million.



For full 2011, net income rose to $15.8 million, or $1.01 per share, from $12.7 million, or 80 cents, in 2010. Revenue climbed 15.5% to $700 million.

Universal Truckload is ranked No. 40 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
