UPS Cargo Plane Crashes in Alabama

A UPS Inc. cargo aircraft crashed outside of Birmingham, Ala., Wednesday morning, killing the plane’s pilot and co-pilot, news reports said.

The A300-600F jet aircraft was arriving from UPS’ freight hub in Louisville, Ky., UPS said in a statement.

The company did not confirm casualties, which were reported by news outlets. The pilot and co-pilot, who have not been identified, were the only occupants of the flight, Reuters reported, citing Birmingham Mayor William Bell.

“This incident is very unfortunate, and our thoughts and prayers are with those involved,” UPS Airlines President Mitch Nichols said in a statement.

UPS said it will release more facts about this accident as they become available, and that the National Transportation Safety Board, whose investigators are en route to the crash site, will be the primary source of information going forward.
