UPS Cries Foul Over Deal Mulled by FedEx, USPS

United Parcel Service is crying foul now that rivals FedEx Corp. and the U.S. Postal Service are considering the formation of an alliance.

Postmaster General William J. Henderson confirmed Sept. 7 that his organization and FedEx of Memphis, Tenn., are contemplating what Henderson referred to as a “strategic alliance,” in which the post office would perform last-mile delivery for a variety of FedEx shipments.

UPS suggested that Congress and the Justice Department should squelch the deal.

Henderson said his agency’s residential delivery network and FedEx’s airborne transportation network are complementary, hence the recent discussions among executives from both sides.
