UPS Donates Tracking Technology for Use in Haiti

UPS Inc. said Tuesday it has donated supply-distribution barcode technology for use by the Salvation Army in its Haiti relief efforts.

The system is based on UPS’ Trackpad technology, which customers use to track packages within campus environments as the packages move from the loading dock to distributed offices for delivery.

It is replacing handwritten index cards that had been used by the Salvation Army in Haiti following that country’s severe earthquake on Jan. 12.

UPS, ranked No. 1 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers, is among a series of trucking and logistics firms that have contributed goods and services to Haitian relief efforts.
