UPS Files NAFTA Complaint Against Canadian Postal Service

United Parcel Service of America is crying foul under the North American Free Trade Agreement resolution process and wants equal treatment for its business in Canada.

In trying to pry the door open wider, UPS filed a NAFTA statement of claim for its Canadian subsidiary, suing the Ottawa government for $160 million in damages under provisions of the trade accord. The company alleges the unfair monopoly of the Canada Post Corp., the government’s national mail service, harms its business.

“This action is taken in defense of fair competition and is designed to level the playing field for all courier companies including UPS,” said Tad Segal, UPS public affairs manager in Washington, DC.
