The price of getting parcels to their destination via UPS is going up after the holiday sales season.

UPS Inc. announced Sept. 1 that daily rates for ground and air service would increase an average of 4.9%. The price increases are set to take effect Dec. 26.

UPS ranks No. 1 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.

The package delivery company also announced general freight rates would increase 4.9%, effective Sept. 19.

The rate increases will support "ongoing expansion and capabilities enhancements," a company statement said.
