UPS Inc. said late Monday it has set a 4.9% net increase for 2011 for ground packages, air express and U.S.-origin international shipments.

The carrier last month set a 5.9% rate increase for its less-than-truckload UPS Freight unit, which took effect Oct. 18. (Click here for previous story.)

The rate increase for UPS ground shipments is based on a 5.9% increase in the base rate, minus a 1% reduction to the index-based ground fuel surcharge, UPS said.

The rate increase for air express and international shipments is based on a 6.9% increase in the base rate, less a 2% reduction to the index-based air and international fuel surcharge.

UPS is ranked No. 1 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
