UPS Sets New Ocean Service from Asia

UPS Inc. has launched a new ocean shipping service from Asia to the United for less-than-container loads it said will be 20% faster.

The Preferred LCL Ocean Freight service will move shipments from Japan to the U.S. in as little as 11-to-18 days, depending upon the destination, the company said in a statement.

Upon arrival at U.S. West Coast ports, shipments will move to a trucking network operated by UPS to support air freight, ensuring faster transit and day-definite delivery to U.S. destinations.

The service will cut five to six days of transit time off the current standard service to typical U.S. East Coast destinations, UPS said.

UPS is leasing space from major container shipping companies for the service, the Associated Press reported.
