Teamsters who work at UPS Inc.’s package division approved the largest remaining barriers to implementation of a national contract that is the transport industry’s largest labor deal.

Workers covered by the Western Supplement and Southwest Riders approved side agreements that initially were rejected when the national contract was ratified in June. Union rules require that all side agreements be approved before the contract affecting 235,000 workers can take effect.

After the approval of the two riders, there are six remaining supplements to be approved. With the latest results announced late Dec. 10, 11 of the side agreements have passed on the second round of voting.

Once implemented, the contract offers $3.90 per hour in wage increases over five years.
