UPS Teamsters to Vote Again on Rejected Agreements
Teamsters at UPS Inc. will vote again starting Sept. 18 on seven of the 17 supplemental agreements that were rejected in June when the national master agreement was approved, the union has announced.
The scheduling of the revote, announced last week, followed a meeting where changes in the health-care plan that have been negotiated since the initial rejection were explained to union leaders. Under the terms of the agreement, all of the rejected side agreements must be approved before the contract can take effect.
UPS declined to comment on the upcoming vote because it is an internal union matter, a company spokesman said.
The union’s TeamCare health plan currently covers about 80,000 Teamsters and family members. As many as 330,000 Teamsters and family members would be covered by TeamCare after the supplements are approved.
“We know that many of these supplements and riders went down because of our members’ concerns over switching from the company plan to TeamCare,” Jim Hoffa, general president and chairman of the UPS National Negotiating Committee, said in a statement. “We had to improve the plan. We heard our members’ concerns, and we went to work to address them.”
