President Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper unveiled a plan aimed at speeding border crossings and enhancing trade between the United States and Canada.
Some companies could be granted a “trusted status,” in which goods could be screened at factories instead of the border itself, the White House said in a statement.
The plan also includes funding to develop ways to expedite the crossings of goods and people, as well as a push to allow more Canadians to obtain the NEXUS frequent traveler cards.
“We are very supportive of the initiatives outlined in the Action Plan, but as always the case with such, the devil is in the details,” American Trucking Associations said.
“This is a great day for the trucking industry and the trade community in both countries,” said David Bradley, president of the Canadian Trucking Alliance. “The leaders and the governments of both great nations are to be commended.”
