USA Truck Appoints Tewari to New Top Trucking Post
USA Truck Inc. announced that Martin Tewari has been appointed to the newly created position of president-Trucking, effective Sept. 30, with responsibility for the carrier’s asset-based operations, pricing and sales activities.
Tewari is moving to USA Truck, which ranks No. 50 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers, from Con-way Truckload, where he was vice president of operations since 2010. USA Truck also announced the resignation of Russell Overla, executive vice president of truckload operations.
Tewari spent five years heading sales activities at Con-way Truckload, a unit of No. 4 Con-way Inc., which earlier this month agreed to be acquired by XPO Logistics for $3 billion.
In the first six months of 2015, USA Truck reported profits from its truckload and brokerage businesses. Trucking accounted for about 70% of revenue, but its operating income trailed results from the non-asset business.
“His appointment and the broad range of responsibilities with which he is charged illustrate the steps we have designed to accelerate the pace of improvement in our Trucking operations,” USA Truck CEO Tom Glaser said in a statement. “We believe Martin’s deep industry knowledge and unsurpassed operational expertise will help us build a best-in-class and consistently profitable Trucking operation.”
Glaser said Overla “built a foundation that will help us continue USA Truck’s forward momentum” in his two years with the Van Buren, Arkansas-based company.
