USA Truck CEO John Simone, who has been on medical leave, said he is looking forward to returning to active involvement in the business.
“My doctors have not finalized their recommendations on my ability to travel or return to USA Truck in a full-time capacity,” Simone said in a letter to colleagues and stockholders. “I intend to return as soon as medically advisable, and I am hoping that will be sometime this summer.”
The publicly traded truckload carrier announced Simone’s leave in early April and appointed Thomas Glaser interim chief operating officer.
In the letter, Simone said he experienced strokes during March, but his doctors expect him to make a fully recovery. He is undergoing treatment for lung cancer, which doctors discovered while looking for the cause of the strokes, Simone said.
“It is too early to have complete visibility on a timeframe for completing treatments or a definitive prognosis, but my doctors and I are optimistic,” Simone said.
“The warm wishes and messages from many of you were much appreciated and are helping keep up my spirits along the way,” he said.
USA Truck, based in Van Buren, Arkansas, ranks No. 50 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
