USA Truck Expands Brokerage Unit
USA Truck Inc. said it is expanding its profitable brokerage unit known as Strategic Capacity Solutions by opening a new office in Florida and expanding the unit’s Chicago facility.
“SCS has been a key contributor to USA Truck’s strong performance throughout 2014, and we are taking a series of steps to expand and strengthen the blend of transportation services we offer,” CEO John Simone said.
During the first nine months of 2014, the brokerage unit’s profit before interest and taxes nearly tripled to $16.4 million from $6.1 million as revenue rose 35% to $144.5 million. The trucking unit lost $7.8 million over the same period, compared with a $10.7 million loss in the 2013 period. Trucking revenue rose 2% to $317.2 million.
The Florida office is in Jacksonville, said the statement from USA Truck, which is based in Van Buren, Arkansas. The company is No. 50 on the Transport Topics list of the top 100 for-hire carriers in the United States and Canada.
