US&T to Invest in E-Commerce

United Shipping & Technology, which became the nation’s largest same-day delivery firm with the acquisition of Corporate Express Delivery Systems in September, has raised $9 million through a private sale of stock.

The money will be used to fund additional investments in technology applications and electronic commerce business expansion and to enhance working capital, company officials said.

United Shipping recently began testing a browser-based, real-time tracking system that allows online merchants to monitor the movement of packages throughout the US&T system.

“Our customers can actually ‘watch’ their delivery move from the pickup point to the final destination on the Internet,” said Steve Jeffrey, director of information technology for Corporate Express.
