Virginia Joins E-ZPass System to Collect Tolls

Transportation officials in Virginia said that the state had merged its electronic toll collection system, SmartTag, with the E-ZPass system that is in use in many East Coast states.

The two toll-collection systems became interoperable on Oct. 27, the state said in a release.

“Joining E-ZPass will allow for seamless travel in the Northeast corridor,” Virginia Department of Transportation Commissioner Philip Shucet said. “Virginia is making it as easy as possible for motorists to go wherever their trips may take them — whether it’s to work, school or traveling along the East Coast.”
