Vitran Reports Second-Quarter Loss

Vitran Corp. reported a second-quarter loss Thursday as its less-than-truckload operations declined.

It lost $4.2 million, or 25 cents per share, compared with a loss of $2.3 million, or 14 cents, a year ago.

Revenue rose 20% to $213 million, the Toronto-based carrier said.



Its LTL unit reported an operating loss of $3.3 million, compared with a $1.2 million loss a year ago, while its supply chain segment’s operating income rose $100,000, to $2.4 million.

Vitran is ranked No. 34 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
