Volvo AB’s North American units’ deliveries fell more than 60% from a year ago from January through July, the company said Wednesday.
Volvo Trucks North America’s deliveries were down 64%, while Mack Trucks’ deliveries fell 62%, the company said.
Volvo said its global deliveries were 124,370 from January through July, down 4% from last year.
The Sweden-based truck maker defines deliveries as the number of units shipped to dealers or directly to end users.
Deliveries of Mack trucks in North America fell to 7,555 units through July, from 19,790 units in the same period last year.
Volvo Trucks North America’s deliveries fell to 7,903 units from 21,734 last year.
Volvo said that large dealer inventories of 2006 trucks, the huge pre-buy last year and weak freight volumes were the main reasons for the decline.
