VW Hires Former Daimler Truck Chief Renschler

Volkswagen AG has hired Andreas Renschler, the former global head of Daimler AG’s truck brands, to oversee its truck operations, which include Scania AB and MAN SE.

Renschler oversaw Daimler’s truck brands, which include Freightliner and Western Star in North America, until April, when he was moved to Merdedes-Benz, which makes luxury cars and vans. He left Daimler in January after 25 years with the world’s largest truck maker.

“We are very pleased we have been able to recruit Mr. Renschler to join our company,” VW Chairman Ferdinand Piech said in a Feb. 21 statement, adding that VW found “the ideal successor” to Leif Oestling, who is retiring.

Renschler will start at VW in February 2015, after a non-compete agreement with Daimler expires.

VW, based in Wolfsburg, Germany, took complete control of Germany-based MAN SE last year, Bloomberg News reported. MAN sells trucks in Europe and South America.

At VW’s supervisory board meeting Feb. 21, it also voted to bid 6.7 billion euros ($9.2 billion) for the remaining 37.4% stake of Scania that it does not currently own. Scania, based in Sweden, also sells trucks in Europe and South America.
