Wabash National Corp. has hired 100 temporary workers and plans to hire 90 more during this quarter to meet rising demand for commercial trailers.
“Our Lafayette operations are beginning to see production and customer demand levels not seen since 2008,” Brent Yeagy, general manager of Wabash’s transportation products group, said in a statement. “We are excited to see order levels finally growing to a point that creates a need for additional associates.”
Wabash spokeswoman Allison Henk told Transport Topics that the 100 people taken on in March and the additional 90 workers would all be employees from a temporary staffing agency.
“All changes in personnel status will depend on future demand,” Henk said, adding that all hires were for Wabash’s Lafayette, Ind., headquarters.
“While it is too early to declare that recent demand will prove to be sustainable, we are nonetheless encouraged by the increased quote and order activity of late,” Dick Giromini, Wabash National’s chief executive officer, said in the company’s statement. “We are hopeful that the addition of the new hires will be long term.”
