Walmart Inc. announced a 1.1 million-square-foot next-generation fulfillment center in Joliet, Ill.
The Joliet fulfillment center will be the first of four announced earlier this year that will feature a new patent-pending process powered by the combination of people, robotics and machine learning, according to the Bentonville, Ark.-based company.
This process will streamline a manual 12-step process to just five steps. Once completed, the four new state-of-the-art fulfillment centers for Walmart could provide 75% of the U.S. population with next- or two-day shipping.
Walmart Inc. ranks No. 2 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest private carriers in North America.
