Web Site Collects Dock Reports

More than 200 carriers are using a Web site to research and report their experiences at loading docks throughout North America.

Dock Report was created by the Truckload Carriers Association and Compunet Credit Services of Lake Havasu City, Ariz. Trucking is losing $1.5 billion a year because of dock inefficiencies, according to TCA.

The database compiles information on the facilities, paperwork handling and ancillary charges drivers encounter at docks. It was designed primarily to reduce wait time and subsequent driver turnover.

Once this data are compiled, it “will be extremely valuable to trucking companies,” said Lana Batts, president of TCA. “It will help with scheduling of equipment and manpower, assist with setting rates and fees and help with driver retention because carriers will get their drivers back on the road faster.”

The Web site, which is available through the end of the year at no charge, can be accessed at www.dockreport.com.
