Willard Nearhoof Honored as Maryland’s Top Driver

Willard Nearhoof, a driver for Pitt Ohio, was selected as Maryland’s 2020 Truck Driver of the Year.

The Maryland Motor Truck Association announced the distinction and noted that Nearhoof is the longest-serving employee in Pitt Ohio’s history, having started with the company in 1979. Nearhoof resides in Harford County, Md., which is northeast of Baltimore and borders Pennsylvania.

The Maryland State Police chose Nearhoof for the honor based on his driving record, which includes 3.7 million accident-free miles. Nearhoof has partici­pated in programs to train other Pitt Ohio employees and contributes to charities, including the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.

Nearhoof was one of 12 drivers eligible for the distinction, each representing a 2020 Driver of the Month. Between the 12 of them, the drivers had accrued about 18 million miles of safe driving.

In addition to a crystal truck from the Maryland Motor Truck Association, Nearhoof received commendations from groups such as the Maryland Transportation Authority Police and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

Pitt Ohio Transportation Group ranks No. 45 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in North ­America.
