Wyoming Considers Truck-Only Tolls on I-80

A Wyoming state legislative committee said that if part of Interstate 80 in the state becomes a toll road, they would prefer charging trucks only, the Associated Press reported.

State Sen. Mike Von Flatern (R), co-chairman of the legislature's joint transportation committee, said the committee is leaning toward making only trucks subject to tolls, AP reported.

Last year, a consultant suggested further study of tolling all traffic on I-80 or tolling trucks only, a scenario in which trucks would get their own designated lanes, AP said.

Von Flatern said that while the national trucking industry opposes new tolls on existing highways, truckers could save money by using a toll road that is safer and shut down less often.
