Bill Panos, who had been serving as the interim director of Wyoming’s Department of Transportation since Oct. 12, was named to the full-time role by Gov. Matt Mead on Jan. 6.
Panos was one of four nominees submitted to the governor by the Wyoming Transportation Commission, which is responsible for maintenance, engineering and design of state highways. Wyoming DOT also is responsible for the highway patrol and oversight of airports.
“Bill Panos has proven himself as a talented leader and effective manager as the director of the school facilities department,” Mead said in a statement. “The WDOT has a proud tradition of quality leadership and one that continues with Bill Panos as director."
Panos replaces John Cox, who held the job for 11 years. A California native and a graduate of California State University, Panos also has worked in state and local government in Massachusetts and Washington on such issues as safety, law enforcement, construction and infrastructure development, contractor management, emergency preparedness and community relations.
