Xata Reports Loss for Fiscal 4Q, Year

Xata Corp. reported a fiscal fourth quarter loss of $1.6 million, or 15 cents per share, compared to a profit of $100,000, or breakeven per share, a year ago.

The supplier of in-cab communications equipment and software said its sales declined to $15.3 million, from $17.1 million a year earlier.

The company said software revenue rose 3% to $11.7 million. Software revenue accounted for 77% of total 2011 revenue compared with 67% for the same period a year earlier, the company said.

For the fiscal year 2011, Xata lost $2.8 million, or 28 cents per share, compared with a loss of $1.3 million, or 34 cents, the previous year.

Xata added that it acquired 64 new customers in the fourth quarter with the majority selecting its Xata Turnpike product.

Sales of hardware systems and services dropped to $3.6 million in the fourth quarter compared with $5.3 million in 2010. The company explained many new customers are adopting its no-upfront-cost Xata Turnpike, which does not require hardware purchases.
