XPO Logistics Inc. and Hewlett Packard Co. plan to lay off about 70 employees in Iowa on Oct. 31 after the two companies ended a contract and parted ways.

According to a letter filed with the state’s workforce development agency, HP will lay off 32 people while XPO plans to lay off 37. The employees worked at a warehouse XPO operated in Des Moines for the computer manufacturer.

“The warehouse is transitioning to another company as of Oct. 31. The 37 workers affected will have opportunities with the new employer and in other parts of XPO,” said spokesman Gary Frantz.

XPO has about 600 employees in Iowa, with around two-thirds of them located in the Des Moines metro, he added.

XPO Logistics ranks No. 2 on the Transport Topics Top 50 list of the largest logistics companies in North America.
