XPO Logistics has secured a multimillion-pound, long-term agreement with Gower Furniture, a supplier of kitchens to the trade and retail sectors in the United Kingdom, XPO announced March 6.
Under the agreement, XPO will provide Gower, a division of Swedish manufacturer Nobia AB, with an estimated 2,000 timed, full-load deliveries per year to distribution centers, as well as more than 8,000 multidrop deliveries to more than 150 U.K. branches. For this deal, XPO has invested in a dedicated fleet of new tractors and trailers equipped with tracking technology to provide traceability of orders, equipment monitoring and fuel use analysis.
XPO said its cost-improvement program will identify efficiencies for Gower’s operations, including more backhauls and the use of route optimization software.
“Working with the XPO Logistics team will allow us to focus even more effectively on the manufacturing of quality kitchens — our core competency — while knowing that our products will be in safe hands for reliable delivery,” said Andy Young, U.K. logistics director for Nobia.
XPO Logistics ranks No. 3 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in the U.S. and Canada and No. 2 on the Transport Topics list of the Top 50 largest logistics companies in North America.
