XPO Logistics Inc. opened a new less-than-truckload service center in the Chicago area, the company announced Oct. 18.

The 150,000-square-foot site includes 264 dock doors to accommodate high volumes and ongoing growth. XPO said the facility is also the base for more than 200 employees including professional drivers, dockworkers, shop technicians, supervisors and customer sales representatives.

“We’re delighted to celebrate the completion of our Chicago Heights service center, following eight months of new construction,” Mario Harik, acting president of less-than-truckload at XPO, said in a statement. “This strategic hub will have a positive impact on customer service throughout our LTL network, as well as the Illinois economy.”

XPO marked the opening of the facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Oct. 17. The company now has 291 service centers, including 14 in Illinois. Those facilities alongside more than 12,000 professional drivers help the company move 18 billion pounds of freight per year.

XPO Logistics ranks No. 2 on the Transport Topics Top 50 list of the largest logistics companies in North America. XPO is No. 3 on the TT Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers. — Transport Topics
