XPO Logistics Posts Fourth-Quarter Loss

XPO Logistics said it posted a fourth-quarter loss after earning a profit in the same period a year ago.

The net loss was $1.5 million, or 27 cents per share, compared to a profit of $800,000, or 10 cents, a year ago. Revenue rose 6.1% to $44.1 million, the logistics provider said in a statement.

Expedited shipment group Express 1’s revenue rose 10.1% to $20.3 million.

Freight forwarder Concert Group Logistics’ revenue declined 4.9% to $16.8 million.

Freight brokerage revenue climbed 27.2% to $8.3 million.

For full-year 2011, XPO Logistics posted a loss of $44.6 million, or $5.41 per share, which was tied to dividends and preferred stock issued after investor Bradley Jacobs took over the CEO position last year after providing $150 million in capital to the former Express-1 Expedited Solutions.

Excluding the charge, full-year net income was $800,000, compared to $4.9 million in 2010. Revenue rose 12.1% to $177 million.
