Yellow Corp. Names Welch President

James Welch becomes president and chief operating officer of Yellow Corp. starting June 1.

Welch, 45, will assume the presidency from Bill Zollars, who remains as chairman of the board and chief executive officer of the Overland Park, Kan., holding company for Yellow Freight System.

Welch will move up from his position of vice president of the company’s central group, a job held since January 1998. He had served as vice president of operations support in 1997 and 1998.

Welch began his career with Yellow in 1978, working in sales and operations in Houston. The West Texas State University graduate also worked for the company in Albuquerque, N.M., and Tracy, Calif.
