YRC Worldwide Inc. announced appointments to its senior leadership team that it said would “further strengthen [its] focus on critical areas,” while cutting costs.

The announcement “is a significant, strategic step as we take advantage of the full power of YRC Worldwide,” said chairman and chief executive officer Bill Zollars.

“A functional organization structure allows us to dedicate an even broader team of seasoned experts to the support of our customers along all lines of our business — clearly a competitive advantage,” he said in a statement Tuesday.

Leaving the company will be Keith Lovetro, former president of YRC Regional Transportation; Michael Rapken, formerly chief information officer; Jim Ritchie, formerly president of YRC Logistics; and Christina Wise, formerly treasurer.

The less-than-truckload carrier said the following executives would assume their responsibilities immediately, reporting to Zollars:

Operations: Mike Smid, chief operations officer, will assume responsibility for the operations of all YRC Worldwide regional and national networks including his current leadership role as president of YRC Inc., a role in which he recently led the successful integration of the Yellow and Roadway national networks.

Sales: John Garcia will become executive vice president and chief sales officer. In this new role, Garcia will be responsible for sales strategy and results across YRC and its regional operating companies.

Logistics: John Carr becomes president for YRC Logistics, leading the company’s global logistics management company focused on transportation, distribution and global services for clients. Carr was formerly COO for YRC Logistics and president for the Americas and Europe.

Finance: Tim Wicks, currently chief financial officer, will lead a newly consolidated organization made up of all strategic and operational finance activities across YRC’s companies. Sheila Taylor, currently vice president of finance and investor relations, will also assume the role of treasurer, reporting to Wicks.

Marketing: Greg Reid, chief marketing officer, will lead a consolidated marketing effort including brand and business development initiatives, supporting all YRC companies.

Technology: Mike Naatz, chief information and service officer, assumes responsibility for YRC Worldwide Information Technology, YRC Customer Service as well as the strategic direction for the regional customer service functions.

General Counsel Dan Churay and Jim Kissinger, executive vice president of human resources, will remain in their current roles, reporting to Zollars.

YRC Worldwide is ranked No. 4 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
