Elevating Truck Safety: The Rise of ADAS Technology

Press play above to watch the replay.

Earlier this year, FMCSA announced a second contract to continue its TechCelerate Now program, which aims to accelerate the adoption of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) to help prevent crashes and save lives. These ADAS technologies, such as automatic emergency braking, lane departure warnings and onboard camera systems, can improve highway safety while also enhancing the efficiency of trucking operations. Over the years, a growing number of motor carriers have adopted various ADAS technologies and have incorporated them into their safety programs, but what will it take for the rest of the industry to invest in these systems?

How do fleet operators and drivers perceive these driver-assist systems today, and how will the TechCelerate Now program raise awareness and acceptance of these technologies? Jeff Loftus, chief of the advanced technology division at FMCSA’s office of research and registration, joins TT’s Seth Clevenger to discuss the current outlook on ADAS technology and the plans for phase 2 of the TechCelerate Now initiative.
