What's That? Driver Turnover

In the trucking industry, driver turnover, often called “churn” in the industry, refers to the rate at which truck drivers leave their jobs and are replaced by new drivers. It is a significant challenge for trucking companies, as high turnover leads to increased recruitment, training costs and operational disruptions. Factors contributing to high turnover include low pay, long hours, time away from home and poor working conditions, which can cause driver dissatisfaction and burnout.

High turnover also stems from limited career advancement opportunities, and health and safety concerns such as the physical toll of long hours on the road.

Companies face increased costs and reduced productivity as they constantly hire and train new drivers.

As a result, addressing driver turnover has become a critical priority for the industry to improve retention and maintain efficiency.
